The results have been posted from the half marathon this weekend, and here is how I did:
2:03: 08 chip time
25/61 age group, 358/791 overall
Interestingly, the two girls I think I mentioned trying to stay with but couldn't hang? 2:00:36. So had I stuck with them I would have been oh so close to 2 hours. Maybe I'm better off? I'm kidding, of course (sort of) but I might've been more pissed to be so close and still not make it! They also had a timing mat (Lauren said it was at 7.25 miles), and I crossed there at 1:06:16 and a 9:09 pace (see, I told you I had it through 8 miles!!), but my pace for the second half (or overall? can't remember) was 9:24. The girls I tried to keep up with at the end, on the other hand, crossed the first mat at 1:06:42, almost 30 seconds after me and at a 9:12 pace, but they finished more than 2 minutes before me with a 9:13 pace (wow- talk about even splits!). I was with them until after 11 miles, I think, so I really lost time right in the end. I swear it's the knowledge that I'm not going to make it...it just kills me! Once I know I'm off pace I lose it mentally. Maybe next time! I'm going to keep an eye on my splits this weekend i n the 25k, and maybe I'll feel better if I cross 13.1 before 2 hours.
On another note, while this race wasn't very full marathon friendly (the whole crowd was gone by the time the marathoners started finishing) if I had done the full I would've had a chance at second in my age group! (The first place finisher was at 4:03, second at 5:18). So who knows, with training and luck I could win my age group here next year!

I know what ya mean about getting off mentally once you're off pace. At Palm Beach on Sunday, after I waited so long at the bathroom, and knew there would be no way to PR, I pretty much gave up. And that was at mile 4. Not good.
You still ran an incredible race, so congrats again on a job well done!
I really love marathons with big crowds, it keeps me motivated. Just think now you "get" to do another one to make your time. :)
I can't imagine a marathon without a lot of people along the course. That's what really kept me going through Philly.
Anyway, great job!
That's why I don't keep track of my splits. (Well, that's how I justify being too cheap to purchase a Garmin. :o)
You'll get that marathon soon!
Man, second was 5:18 in your AG? Sounds to me like second would definitely've been yours.
Re: mentally taking yourself out of the game: I hear you, sister. (This is on a waaay smaller scale, but ...) ...
The 5k I ran over the weekend to get smooth for the Shave your 5k challenge was held at Princeton U. So ... just about all teens and 20-somethings, most of whom I think were on the Princeton x-country team or something. (I was the third oldest in the race!)
At the start, I immediately saw a full TWO THIRDS of the field take off in front of me and quickly recede from view. (I never saw anything but their rapidly diminishing @$$es after that.)
Any hope I had of PRing that day (which was not much to begin with) ran off with their @$$es. I just knew it wasn't happening.
Then, to top it off, a few MORE people passed me at various points during the race.
The human body can experience an actual feeling of near-literal deflation. I know this for a fact now.
I was not unhappy with how I fared. But man! That race was a slog, because my hopes and dreams left me at the starting gun!
Kudos to you AND Lauren for all you accomplished. (I'm reading L's blog now, too. Very inspiring. Without a doubt, yours and hers are the two BEST blogs in the state of LA!)
Way to go! You would do great in a marathon!
YEAY! Congrats on the great time!!
Great race! That's weird about the full marathon--- next time that AG is yours!
